Becker & Poliakoff Shareholder Peter A. Quinter Recognized for 'Excellence in Leadership' by Florida Shipper Magazine

Quinter, Chair of firm's U.S. Customs and International Trade Law Practice,
Distinguished as Leader in Area of International Trade, Transportation

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Becker & Poliakoff, P.A., a diversified commercial law firm with more than 120 attorneys in 14 offices throughout Florida, today welcomed Florida Shipper magazine's recognition of the Chair of the firm's U.S. Customs and International Trade Law Practice as a distinguished "Transportation Leader in Florida,
2006-2007."

Selected by the executive team of Florida Shipper, Becker & Poliakoff shareholder Peter A. Quinter was chosen as one of four winners of the distinction this year, from among nominees submitted by the magazine's readership and former winners of the award. Quinter was recognized for "excellence in leadership" in the areas of international trade and transportation, which impact shippers and carriers throughout the state of Florida.

Appointed to the Florida District Export Council by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce and Board Certified in International Law by the Florida Bar, Quinter advises individuals and companies on all aspects of international trade and transportation and leads a team of Becker & Poliakoff attorneys who are highly experienced in dealing with complex international trade laws and U.S. Customs regulations, policies and procedures.

Prior to joining Becker & Poliakoff in 1994, Quinter served five years as legal counsel in Miami at the Southeast Regional Headquarters of the U.S. Customs Service (now known as U.S. Customs and Border Protection), where he provided legal advice and representation to Customs management on all matters involving the administration and enforcement of the customs and international trade laws.

"Our firm is delighted that Peter's demonstrated leadership in the area of U.S. Customs and international trade law has led to this recognition as a "Transportation Leader in Florida" by Florida Shipper magazine," said Alan S. Becker, founding shareholder of Becker & Poliakoff. "Peter's dedicated service to clients is matched only by his detailed knowledge of the legal and regulatory frameworks governing U.S. customs and trade law. We heartily congratulate Peter on yet another well-deserved distinction as a real leader in his chosen field."

"Peter Quinter is well-known among customs brokers and forwarders statewide for his untiring efforts to free up cargo, streamline procedures and keep the playing field level in the complex post-9/11 era of shipping," said Fred Rivera, President, Florida Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association, which nominated Quinter for the award. "As a dedicated member of the Florida Customs Broker & Forwarders Association, Peter is leading the way as we usher in a new era of growth and cooperation between government agencies and businesses. At a time when regulatory changes are as unpredictable as the weather, Peter has remained committed to bringing knowledge and understanding to the businesses that keep commerce moving... quite literally."

A leader in international trade and customs law, Quinter has been recognized previously by Florida Trend Magazine as among its "Legal Elite" in the area of International Law in both 2004 and 2006. He has also been selected as a "Florida Super Lawyer" by Law & Politics magazine, which named Florida's top lawyers as chosen by their peers.

Florida Shipper, with offices in Miramar, FL, is published by Commonwealth Business Media (CBM) and is a member of CBM's Journal of Commerce Shipper Group of publications, which includes The Journal of Commerce, Shipping Digest, Pacific Shipper and Gulf Shipper.
