Professional Experience:
Melissa Groisman is a multilingual South Florida native practicing in the Firm’s Customs and International Trade Department. She is a graduate of the University of Miami School of Law, earned a Masters in Information Systems Management from Carnegie Mellon University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Computer Science from Duke University.
Ms. Groisman represents both domestic and multinational corporations in matters arising before U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as well as numerous other Federal agencies including the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Experienced with the laws and regulations affecting imported merchandise, Ms. Groisman devotes her practice to structuring international trade transactions in order to legally minimize duty payments. Such work concerns the valuation, tariff classification and country of origin of imported merchandise, and often involves the preparation of binding ruling requests, protests, and other communication with U.S. Customs. She provides legal counsel in the drafting of voluntary disclosures and the negotiation and resolution of penalties, liquidated damages, and other enforcement actions taken by U.S. Customs.
As an Argentinean-American, Melissa is a fully fluent native Spanish speaker. In addition, Ms. Groisman lived in Israel for over a year and is conversationally fluent in Hebrew. Her love of travel has taken her all over the world and she has travelled extensively throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia.
